New York – 12th, February – Modulo, a market leader in the information security industry, announced that NYU Medical Center (NYUMC) has selected its Modulo Risk Manager™ to automate the Medical Center’s time and labor intensive risk management and regulatory compliance processes.
As one of the nation's premier research and academic medical centers, NYUMC is subject to significant oversight and transparency requirements. Participation in federal research grants, accreditation requirements and varying regulations such as FISMA, COBIT, FDA and HIPAA, necessitate the careful maintenance of records and the performance of numerous audits.
“The scope of our activities, medical education, healthcare, and scientific research, and the fact that we are an organization of more than 20,000 people spread over 40 buildings made dealing with these complex regulatory standards a major endeavor requiring months of staff time and a large IT infrastructure,” said Hai Ngo, the Medical Center’s Chief Information Security Officer.
Prior to the implementation of Modulo Risk Manager™, Ngo and his internal staff executed risk assessment projects and compliance audits through highly labor-intensive processes, particularly problematic given its complex IT infrastructure. The process required that Ngo and his team maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date list of regulatory requirements and best practices guidelines. Before implementing the Modulo Risk Manager™, the group would gather information from each department at NYUMC and manually measure against their requirements.
“We were looking for a solution that would offer an open framework so that we wouldn't have to perform separate assessments,” said Ngo. “It was also important to be able to distribute and collect data seamlessly and of course, for people outside of the IT department to be able to use it.”
NYUMC looked at about five different products to help it streamline its risk assessment and compliance processes before choosing Modulo Risk Manager™.
“Once Modulo Risk Manager™ gathered and assessed the data, we were able to produce reports illustrating where each department was relative to its compliance standards, what risks they were vulnerable to and what remedial actions, if any, were required”, explained Charlie Warhaftig, director for Modulo.
