Project Scope

Schlumberger was selected as a result of a competitive bidding process to conduct a security audit in BR Distribuidora's IT area. This area of BR Distribuidora centralizes all of the company's operations throughout Brazil. Schlumberger decided to use Modulo Risk Manager, a risk management and compliance system, for the security audit. The project involved the following tasks:

  • Evaluation and analysis of the IT environment
  • Emergency security implementations
  • Communicating and elevating the corporate awareness of information security policies and procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with market regulations
“With Modulo Risk Manager we gain incredible speed and agility, reducing the time needed for conducting risk assessments by 50%. The tool automates the collection of information required to generate reports. Because this usually slow and painstaking activity is speedily performed by the software tool”.

  • Automation of several tasks previously performed by the consultant involving the collection of information and generation of reports
  • Since data is collected automatically, there is more time for careful analysis and interpretation of information
  • Development of new knowledge bases for future project needs
"The information security project at BR started with the contracting of Schlumberger, which further developed - with Modulo's assistance - the company's information security policies, provided support for implementing emergency recommendations regarding IT information security, and developed an awareness-building plan which is being successfully implemented by our workforce. The risk analysis activity also comprised physical facilities and business processes, mapping all vulnerable points. This task was critical for approval of BR's IT environment in terms of meeting COBIT requirements, and consequently SOX requirements. We are deeply satisfied with the work conducted by these two companies. They are doubtlessly leaders in the Brazilian information security sector, and are therefore great partners for BR, which operates in an extremely competitive market and needs to place high focus on such issues”.
